Redefining Seven Key Terms
of Church "Jargon"

People of the Future (POTF) are "transformed by the renewing of our minds" (Romans 12.2) when we redefine key terms of church "jargon" like "gospel" and "discipleship." The redefinitions below bring out the biblical connection between these terms and Jesus's announcement that the Messianic future is arriving. That connection often gets overlooked when we stick to the familiar theological definitions of these terms.

Here are seven familiar terms upscaled for “People of the Future”:

1.  Mission – To participate in the Messianic Dream (a.k.a. the “kingdom”) as an arriving reality; that is, to connect, heal, and bless the world enough to give glimpses of the future Messianic Age when Jesus rules everything everywhere.

2.  Gospel – the Messianic future is arriving through Jesus.

  • God masterminded and launched a noble campaign to make the Messianic future real.

  • He installed Jesus as his “Messiah,” the Future-Bringer, the centerpiece and director of his People of the Future (POTF) Campaign.

  • The death and resurrection of Jesus together validate him in this world-changing Messianic role

  • Jesus's campaign strategy for today is to put his Spirit into willing people to guide and empower them as POTF to change the world's outlook from despair to hope.

3.  Evangelism – Raising awareness of this Messianic Dream message, building credibility for it (experiencing it, living like you believe it yourself), and recruiting willing POTF.

4.  Faith – Believing that through Jesus the risen Messiah, the future is going to go the way he said it would; plus, believing it enough to be recruited for life as a POTF. Having faith means turning to the recruiter’s desk to sign up.

5.  Church – The global, multi-ethnic network of POTF; that is, the recruits and the Messiah seen collectively, on fire with the campaign message.

6.  Discipleship – Discovering through participation and continuous training what it means to be POTF members/recruits, including recruiting others.

7.  Sin – Lack of “faith” that the Messiah controls the future, shown either by refusing to be recruited at all or by signing up as a recruit but not participating as a POTF.
